Fair
Grounds offers only 100% organic, freshly
roasted coffees. Most of our selections are 100% Fair Trade and
shade grown as well. To assure you of only the freshest coffee,
we place our orders every Monday. Only then is the coffee roasted
and delivered to us on Wednesday. This is your assurance of only
the freshest coffee--usually no longer than seven days off the roast.
Elliot's
tea selection includes a wide variety of organic black,
green, herbal and flavored teas. We recently introduced the full
line of Stash Yoga teas--an eight flavor selection, each variety
corresponding to a different chakra.
Elliot's creates its Italian soda by mixing sodium-free seltzer with
any one or combination of our more than 25 flavors of Torani Italian
syrups. We also offer a variety of sugar-free flavors.
You may choose from non-fat or reduced fat milk, or for a small additional charge, soy milk for your beverage of choice.
Fair Grounds has recently added Yerba Mate to our extensive beverage
line. If you've never tried this beverage which enjoys extreme
popularity throughout most of South America, now is your
chance. Our Yerba Mate, or Mate, like all of our
brews, is 100% organic and is grown in an entirely sustainable
method. We offer it either as a tasty chai, iced mint, or
regular. You may also want to take home a package of bags or
loose mate. We offer a rather full variety of flavors.

What is Fair Trade Coffee?
|
|
|
|
Coffee
is the second largest US import after oil, and the US consumes
one-fifth of all the world's coffee, making it the largest consumer in
the world. But few Americans realize that agriculture workers in the
coffee industry often toil in what can be described as "sweatshops in
the fields." Many small coffee farmers receive prices for their coffee
that are less than the costs of production, forcing them into a cycle
of poverty and debt.
Fair Trade is a viable solution to this
crisis, assuring consumers that the coffee we drink was purchased under
fair conditions. To become Fair Trade certified, an importer must meet
stringent international criteria; paying a minimum price per pound of
$1.26, providing much needed credit to farmers, and providing technical
assistance such as help transitioning to organic farming. Fair Trade
for coffee farmers means community development, health, education, and
environmental stewardship.
